Things That Should Be Included in a Pre-Trip Inspection

If you are planning to go over the river and through the woods this holiday season, make sure to call us first to schedule a pre-trip inspection for your car, truck, or utility vehicle. We want to make sure that your automobile does not break down during your travels. As such, we will do the following and more.

Battery Test

Testing the battery gives us a chance to see if it is holding a full charge. Sometimes, when the battery is dying, it is unable to hold a full charge. If there is a problem with the charge in your battery, or if the battery is leaking or warped, we need to replace it before you hit the road.

Brake Check

We will also inspect the brake system to make sure your vehicle will stop every time you press down on the brake pedal. If the system is overdue for service, we will service it. This can include replacing the brake pads and changing the brake fluid.

Fluid Check

Speaking of fluids, we will check all of the fluids in your automobile to make sure none of them need to be topped off. In addition to checking the fluids, we will take a look at the belts and hoses to assess their condition. If any of these things require service, we will let you know.

Oil Change

We recommend that you have the oil changed before you leave on your trip. Even if the service is not due, the engine will run more efficiently with clean motor oil and a clean oil filter. You will get better gas mileage if you let us change the oil before you head out.

Tire Check

Finally, we cannot let you leave without checking the tires. We want to make sure that each tire has plenty of tread and that the tread is wearing down evenly. This is especially important if you are heading into an area of the country that has winter storms.

In addition to the above, we can also run a diagnostic test to make sure there is nothing wrong with your vehicle that is invisible to the naked eye. This gives us a chance to review the data provided by the engine control unit, your automobile’s main computer chip. If there is an error, the unit will have it. Call us today to schedule an appointment for your automobile so we can inspect it before your trip.
